Hawk
You guys/gals look at pic #7 and tell me what kind of hawk this is. At least I think it's a hawk.

I think it's what we call a Chicken Hawk but I'm not sure of the real name. The stupid thing flew into one of our windows and made a crash landing. When I figured out where the noise had came from and went to investigate, he/she was laying there with it's tongue out. I had to go do some things and when I came back to see if it was OK, it flew up and landed on the window ledge. I think it's OK, it's still setting there. I hate to see wounded animals and not be able to help but there's no way I can get to it.
Hopefully it'll be OK.

It looks like young Cooper's Hawk, which also are also called Chicken Hawks. If it hasn't left on its own yet there's probably a wildlife rescue organization in your area. I don't think I'd try to deal with it myself. I believe Cooper's are an endangered species and there might be all sorts of complications.
I had pretty good luck finding out about a red-tailed I saw in the middle of a city by calling the zoo. They should know of any rescue orgs that are around.

Billy; Tom's right, call the DNR before doing anything to try to "Help" the bird. I know a fellow who thought he was doing the "Right Thing" by putting an injured animal out of it's misery. Turned out he killed something that was protected and almost had to pay a nifty fine. Finnaly the DNR agreed he did the "Right Thing" and droped it. I don't know what the bird is either, I'm sure a hawk of some sort. Frank.

It's definitely not a golden eagle. I've had a few of those overfly my place. It really looks like a hawk and particularly the cooper's hawk. I wish I had checked the board last night, my field guide is at home and I'm at work. But the stripped tail feathers and the color really look like a Cooper's.
How was the underside color? Look a his link I found and see if it's similar. They are pics, but mostly in flight so more of an underside shot.
But it also looks like it could be a Sharp-shinned Hawk. Hard to tell if that's a dash of yell on the base of the beak from the photo.

Good news! The hawk is OK. I guess he needed some time to get his head straight again. He did take a pretty hard hit.

That's good to hear, and I don't even find concern for the chicken hawk by the chicken rancher unusual. I prefer to see my hawks flying as well. We've never had a house hawk before and it must have been quite an experience.
An ID on the bird is a little difficult since it almost certainly is a juvenile, and as everybody knows kids are confusing. Maybe it thought it was crashing a party.
